Dr. Kevin G. Gilbert is a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP)

This method of taping has become very popular in recent years; however, its application has been used in professional sports for more than twenty years.

Kinesio tape is a very thin latex-free (hypoallergenic) elastic tape specifically designed and engineered for the Kinesio Taping Method.® These unique properties allow for easy and comfortable application. The tape’s water resistant property is not affected by water or perspiration and a typical application is worn for 3-5 days.

Kinesio taping practitioners apply this tape in specific patterns over the skin to affect one or more of the body’s systems:  muscles, tendons and joints, the lymphatic and blood circulation and/or the proprioceptive nervous system. These applications help reduce pain and inflammation, increases circulation and allows for a full range of motion during the rehabilitation process.

Taping can assist athletes with better performance. Example: When athletes muscles fatigue, they lose form. When form deteriorates, athletes slow down and are at greater risk of injury. Taping will help with more efficient movement by activating skin receptors while stabilizing joints, so movements are better coordinated and reaction time is increased.
